Marriage License Information & Local Register of Deeds
General information:
• Both Bride and Groom must be present to apply and provide their Social Security numbers verified by their Social Security Cards or W-2 Forms.
• Each must also present either:
• If 21 years of age or older: current Driver's License, State ID Card, Passport, or Military ID.
• If under 21: a certified copy of their Birth Certificate. (Some counties require this for all applicants.)
• $60.00 cash payment is due at time of application (check county sites for price changes).
• No physical exam or blood work is required.
• The license is valid for 60 days from the time and date it is issued.
• A North Carolina marriage license may be used anywhere in the State, but the completed license must be returned to the office which issued it. (Normally done by mail by the minister).
• Divorced applicants must provide the date of their divorce. If it is within 60 days of the application for the Marriage License, they must provide an original or certified copy of the Divorce Decree.
